Mumbai, Aug 24 (INB) IIT Bombay felicitated Professor Juzer Vasi and its alumnus Shashi Shekhar Vempati for being conferred the prestigious Padma Shri award by the Government of India, during the medal distribution ceremony of the premier institute’s 64th convocation. In a post on X, IIT Bombay said on Sunday the medal distribution ceremony was held as part of the 64th convocation, with Prof Umesh Waghmare, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology (DST), attending as the chief guest. IIT Bombay Director Prof Shireesh Kedare felicitated Prof Vasi on the occasion for his contributions to the advancement of science and technology, particularly in the field of semiconductors, the institute said. Kedare also felicitated the institute’s alumnus Shashi Shekhar Vempati for his contributions to media, technology and public policy, particularly in advancing artificial intelligence and deep-tech areas, according to the IIT Bombay post. The institute described both awardees as having made significant contributions in their respective fields and highlighted their association with science, technology, innovation and public policy. The medal distribution ceremony formed part of the institute’s 64th convocation celebrations, which brought together graduating students, faculty, alumni and distinguished guests, IIT Bombay said.
