Chandigarh University alumnus Biswajit Das serves as XO of Indian analog astronaut mission in Poland

Chandigarh, Aug 26 (INB) Chandigarh University alumnus Biswajit Das, a space architect, analog astronaut and researcher, served as Executive Officer (XO) of VyomSetu-1, an 18-day Indian analog astronaut mission conducted at the LunAres Research Station in Poland, the university said on Wednesday.
The varsity in a LinkedIn post said, Das was part of an all-Indian, multidisciplinary crew that lived and worked inside a simulated lunar habitat under isolation and mission protocols. During the mission, he contributed to scientific research, habitat and resource management, engineering investigations, crew-performance and psychological studies, data collection, communication exercises and operational simulations. Beyond VyomSetu-1, Das also served as Deputy Commander of VyomSetu-2, an eight-day analog mission at the Analog Astronaut Training Center in Poland, it added. He has also completed military-grade human centrifuge training at the Military Institute of Aviation Medicine (WIML) in Warsaw, gaining exposure to high-G acceleration, fighter-cockpit simulation, anti-G manoeuvres and human performance under extreme conditions. The VyomSetu missions are providing Das with experience in human performance, habitat operations, crew training and mission operations, which could contribute to India’s future human spaceflight ambitions, including the Gaganyaan programme, it said. The university also highlighted its Kalpana Chawla Center for Research in Space Science & Technology, saying the initiative is aimed at nurturing students, researchers and future space explorers. Chandigarh University has separately featured Das among its architecture alumni and described him as a space architect and analog astronaut.
