New Delhi, Oct 23 (INB) The CBSE has asked its affiliated schools across the country to participate in the Green Diwali Campaign 2026, urging students to avoid firecrackers and adopt environment-friendly practices to reduce air pollution.
In a notification dated October 22, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) said the campaign, themed “Say No to Crackers, Yes to Clean Air”, will run from October 20 to November 8 across all states and Union Territories.
The initiative is being conducted in alignment with a communication from the WWF-India Environmental Information, Awareness, Capacity Building and Livelihood Programme(EIACP) Centre, a resource partner supported by the Union Environment Ministry, the notification said. The board has asked school heads to organise cracker-free pledge ceremonies during assemblies, conduct environmental awareness programmes and encourage students and staff to adopt sustainable practices in line with Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment).
Schools have also been asked to participate in a WWF-India carbon footprint survey and submit details of campaign activities, along with geo-tagged photographs, through a designated online form. The notification places special emphasis on schools in the 130 non-attainment cities covered under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). CBSE has also directed schools to disseminate campaign posters and awareness material through their websites, newsletters and digital notice boards.
