New Delhi, Dec 22 (INB) National Law University Delhi, vice-chancellor Professor Dr GS Bajpai and OP Jindal University vice chancellor C Raj Kumar have been jointly conferred 2nd Professor (Dr.) SR Bhansali National Award for Excellence in Law by the Family Trust of Professor Sanwat Raj Uchab Kanwar Bhansali Education and Charitable Trust, the Delhi based law university said on Monday.
Instituted in 2023 in the revered memory of Professor (Dr.) S.R. Bhansali, a distinguished legal scholar, visionary academician, and eminent institution builder, the award honours outstanding and sustained contributions to law, legal education, justice delivery, and public service.
It is a national-level annual recognition, open to meritorious legal scholars and academic leaders across India through a rigorous nomination process supported by detailed documentation, testimonials, and evidence of scholarly and institutional impact.
The selection is overseen by a distinguished jury comprising senior retired judges, former vice-chancellors, and eminent professors, and is conducted through a two-stage evaluation, the statement said.
In the first stage, all nominations are closely scrutinised and five outstanding candidates are shortlisted. In the final stage, the jury conducts an intensive assessment of the shortlisted nominees using additional documentation, testimonials, and online interactions before selecting the most deserving recipient. The process is marked by transparency, academic rigour, and institutional integrity.
“The formal conferment of the award will take place at the GALTER Mega Summit – ATLEG 2026, scheduled in April 2026 at Hyderabad. The conferment of this prestigious honour on Professor G.S. Bajpai stands as a strong testament to his far-reaching contributions to legal scholarship, criminal justice reforms, academic leadership, and public service, and of a career guided by a sustained commitment to justice, equality, and excellence in legal education,” the statement said.
