Dharmendra Pradhan leads 12th International Yoga Day celebrations at Delhi University

New Delhi, June 22, 2026 (INB) Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday led the celebrations of the 12th International Day of Yoga at the South Campus Ground of the University of Delhi, highlighting yoga’s role in promoting physical well-being, mental peace, and holistic development.
Addressing students, faculty members, yoga practitioners, and other participants, Pradhan said yoga serves as a powerful medium for harmonizing the body, mind, and soul.
“Yoga is a means of achieving harmony between the body, mind and spirit. It guides individuals towards physical well-being, mental peace and holistic development, helping them lead healthier and more balanced lives,” he said.
The minister noted that yoga has emerged as a global symbol of India’s rich cultural heritage and healthy lifestyle, attributing its worldwide recognition to the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, yoga has become a global movement and a symbol of India’s civilizational wisdom. It continues to inspire people across the world to embrace health, balance and wellness,” Pradhan said, extending his greetings to citizens on the occasion of International Yoga Day.
Highlighting India’s growing stature in education, innovation and entrepreneurship, the minister emphasized the crucial role of the country’s education system in nurturing future-ready talent and advancing the vision of a developed India.
Congratulating the University of Delhi on its continued progress in global university rankings, Pradhan praised the contributions of its students, faculty and staff.
“Delhi University’s achievements reflect its commitment to academic excellence. Integrating yoga into campus life can further promote holistic well-being and contribute to building a healthier and more balanced society,” he added.
School Education and Literacy Secretary Sanjay Kumar, Higher Education Secretary Dr. Vineet Joshi, Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh, senior officials from the Ministry of Education, and members of the university community were present at the event.
Participants joined yoga sessions as part of the national observance of the 12th International Day of Yoga. A live telecast of the Prime Minister’s International Yoga Day programme was also screened during the event.
