Teacher’s Forum: UGC invites nominations for National Award to Teachers 2026, apply by July 5

New Delhi, Jun 29 (INB) The University Grants Commission (UGC) hasb invited nominations for the National Award to Teachers (NAT) 2026, urging universities and colleges across the country to recommend distinguished faculty members by July 5. In a communication addressed to Vice-Chancellors of universities and Principals of colleges, UGC Secretary Prof. Shyama Rath said the Ministry of Education has announced the National Award to Teachers 2026 to recognise exceptional and exemplary contributions of teachers in higher educational institutions. The Commission informed institutions that the National Award to Teachers portal is now live and requested them to widely disseminate information about the award among faculty members while encouraging eligible teachers to apply. According to the notification, nominations must be submitted through the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal at awards.gov.in, where the scheme guidelines and application details are available. UGC said the last date for submission of nominations and duly filled applications is July 5, 2026. The selected teachers will be honoured by the President of India at a felicitation ceremony scheduled to be held in New Delhi on September 5, 2026, coinciding with Teachers’ Day. The Commission has called upon higher educational institutions to ensure wider participation in the prestigious national award aimed at recognising excellence in teaching and academic leadership.
