New Delhi, Sept 17 (INB) The Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL) organised a national webinar on solid and e-waste management as a lead-up to Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 and Special Campaign 6.0, the Education Ministry said.
The webinar was organised under the aegis of Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE to sensitise school students and stakeholders about responsible waste management, source segregation, recycling, reuse and safe disposal of solid and electronic waste, the ministry said in a statement issued on Wednesday. Secretary, DoSEL, T K Anil Kumar highlighted the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 for promoting environmental awareness and responsible citizenship among school students. He said around one lakh school students collected more than 4,000 kg of e-waste across 10 cities in four states and one Union Territory under Special Campaign 5.0, it added. Kumar said effective implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules 2026 was essential to reduce pollution, conserve resources, promote recycling and resource recovery, and ensure safe and scientific waste management. Joint Secretary, DoSEL, Amarpreet Duggal highlighted the role of Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE in helping students understand environmental challenges and develop responsible attitudes and behaviour. She said the convergence of Swachhata Pakhwada (September 1-15), Swachhata Hi Seva (September 17-October 17) and Special Campaign 6.0 (October 2-31) would provide an opportunity to strengthen the culture of cleanliness and responsible environmental practices among students and the wider school community. Duggal also announced a quiz competition on “Solid Waste Management Rules 2026” for students of Classes 6 to 12. The quiz will be hosted on the Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE portal from September 17 to October 17, the ministry said. More than 2.6 lakh school students, teachers and community members participated in the webinar through YouTube, it said. The webinar featured expert presentations on solid waste management and a walkthrough of the Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE portal, providing participants an overview of its digital resources for environmental awareness and student engagement. Separately, a portal for Special Campaign 6.0 was launched on Wednesday. Kumar said DoSEL has set a target of conducting 7 lakh cleanliness campaigns across the country under the campaign.
