Kanpur, Sept 17 (INB) The Wadhwani-IIT Kanpur Innovation Centre for Life Sciences and Medical Technologies has been launched at IIT Kanpur to support research and commercialisation in healthcare and biotechnology, it said on Thursday. The Centre will receive USD 5 million over five years to support the development, validation and commercialisation of innovations in life sciences, biotechnology, medical technologies and AI-enabled healthcare, the institute said in a LinkedIn post. Building on the institute’s biomedical research capabilities, the Centre will help researchers take promising innovations from laboratories to real-world healthcare applications by providing support in validation, intellectual property, regulatory pathways, industry partnerships, technology transfer and commercialisation, it added. Its focus areas will include therapeutics, regenerative medicine, drug delivery, vaccines, medical devices, diagnostics, neurodegenerative diseases, mental health, antimicrobial resistance and AI-enabled healthcare, according to the post. The inauguration was followed by a workshop on “Translational Research and Regulatory Pathways: Bridging Innovation to Healthcare Impact”, bringing together experts from regulatory agencies, academia, healthcare, industry and the innovation ecosystem. Prof Jitendra Bera, Dean of Faculty Affairs, IIT Kanpur; Dr Upendra Kumar Singh, Director General, DRDO, Ministry of Defence; Dr Shirshendu Mukherjee, Managing Director, Wadhwani Innovation Network; Prof Ashok Kumar, Professor-in-Charge, WIN-COE, IIT Kanpur; and Dr Santosh K Misra, Co-Professor-in-Charge, WIN-COE, IIT Kanpur, were present at the inauguration, it added. The Wadhwani-IIT Kanpur Innovation Centre is part of the Wadhwani Innovation Network (WIN)-IITK, an initiative of the Wadhwani Foundation aimed at strengthening research translation and commercialisation across India.
