New Delhi, Oct 7 (INB) The University of Colorado Denver has received a Letter of Intent from the University Grants Commission (UGC) to establish a degree-granting location in Hyderabad, with the first student batch expected in August 2027, it said. The Hyderabad location will be the first in India by a public American university and the first foreign university location in Telangana, the university said in an official statement on Tuesday.
The proposed campus will offer programmes in high-demand areas such as business, computing, engineering and analytics, subject to regulatory approvals. The university said the initiative will focus on multidisciplinary education, practical learning, career readiness and student outcomes, in line with the priorities of India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. CU Denver has partnered with global education company Emeritus as its strategic joint venture partner in India. Emeritus will support the university in key non-academic functions related to establishing and growing the Hyderabad location.
CU Denver Chancellor Kenneth T. Christensen said the initiative would build on the university’s long-standing connection with students from India and expand access to career-focused education. Emeritus co-founder and CEO Ashwin Damera said the initiative would bring globally relevant education closer to Indian students and provide programmes aligned with the changing needs of the workforce.
CU Denver said it will continue to work with regulators, academic institutions, industry and other stakeholders as plans for the Hyderabad location progress. Additional programmes will be proposed to the UGC for approval in the second year and beyond. Established in 1973, CU Denver is a public urban research university in Colorado offering more than 135 bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programmes across seven schools and colleges. It serves around 14,000 students and has more than 100,000 alumni worldwide.
