Delhi University issues strict code of conduct for DUSU Election 2026 campaign

New Delhi, Jul 18 (INB) The Delhi University has issued a detailed code of conduct for the Students’ Union (DUSU) Election 2026, imposing strict restrictions on campaign activities to prevent defacement of public property and maintain order on campus, the varsity said in a statement.
According to a press release issued by DU’s Office of the Proctor, the directions were finalised during a meeting held on July 16 between University Proctor Prof Manoj Kumar Singh, his team, DUSU office-bearers and representatives of various student bodies. The meeting reviewed election protocols in line with the High Court of Delhi’s guidelines and the Lyngdoh Committee recommendations.
The university said there will be a complete ban on printed campaign material, including posters, banners and billboards, across the campus. Only handmade posters will be permitted at the designated “Wall of Democracy”, while wall painting, spray painting and display of flex posters on MCD advertisement boards have been prohibited. The Proctor’s Office said violations would be reported to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi for appropriate action.
The code also prohibits stickers carrying candidates’ names on vehicles. Each candidate will be allowed to use only five cars for campaigning, while the use of tractors, JCBs or animals has been banned. Vehicles with tinted glasses or concealed number plates will not be permitted, and unauthorised vehicles parked on the campus may be challaned or towed away.
The university further barred the distribution of gifts or souvenirs carrying candidates’ names and prohibited the use of canopies and umbrellas for campaigning. It warned that candidates found violating these directions could face cancellation of their nominations.
The Proctor also said prior intimation would be mandatory for holding public meetings on campus. Campaigning inside colleges will be restricted to five students at a time, while only women students will be allowed to campaign inside girls’ college hostels.
The university said all stakeholders assured full cooperation in ensuring peaceful and orderly conduct of the DUSU Election 2026.
