In a circular issued to school heads, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) highlighted the growing threat of cybercrimes targeting children, including online grooming, cyberbullying, identity theft, and online harassment.

CBSE emphasized the critical role of schools in fostering cyber awareness, encouraging responsible online behaviour, and educating students about cyber threats and preventive measures.
As per the circular, schools have been advised to encourage students, teachers, and parents to complete a 2.5-hour Cyber Hygiene Certificate Course developed by I4C and available on its official website.
Schools may circulate a Cyber Safety Pledge among students for parental signatures and submission. The pledge is aimed at promoting safe online practices, responsible social media usage, and cyber hygiene.
CBSE has recommended displaying cyber safety advisories on parent portals. Schools have also been asked to promote a cybercrime awareness comic book for children prepared by the Ministry of Home Affairs, encourage parents and students to follow the “CyberDost” social media handles.
CBSE has advised schools to establish Cyber Clubs to conduct regular awareness programmes.
Suggested activities include speeches, quizzes, poster-making competitions, debates, pledge campaigns, and awareness sessions. CBSE has also encouraged schools to observe the first Wednesday of every month as “Cyber Jagrookta Diwas”.
Integration with School Programmes
The board has recommended incorporating cyber awareness themes into annual school events, parent-teacher interactions, and special outreach campaigns to expand awareness among the school community.
Schools have been encouraged to widely share cyber safety advisories, posters, videos, booklets, and multilingual information, education and communication (IEC) materials developed by I4C through websites, social media platforms, digital notice boards, newsletters, mobile applications, and other communication channels.
CBSE urged all affiliated schools to actively participate in the national initiative and contribute to building a safer digital environment for students, teachers, and parents through sustained cyber awareness and cyber hygiene efforts.
