VIT Bhopal partners with NARL to strengthen space science research with GNSS facility

Bhopal/Sehore, Jul 13 (INB) VIT Bhopal University has established a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver facility in collaboration with the National Atmospheric Research Laboratory (NARL), Department of Space, to strengthen research in space science, space weather and indigenous navigation technologies. The university said the facility has been set up under NARL’s North–South Chain for Ionosphere and Space Weather Observations and will enable continuous monitoring of key ionospheric parameters, including Total Electron Content (TEC), ionospheric scintillation, signal degradation and geomagnetic disturbances. The data generated through the GNSS receiver will support research in ionospheric science, space weather, geodesy, and Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) applications, while contributing to India’s capabilities in satellite navigation and Earth observation. Dr. Sharad Chandra Tripathi, Senior Assistant Professor at VIT Bhopal University, said the collaboration would strengthen the university’s research infrastructure and provide students and researchers with opportunities to work on GNSS, NavIC, space weather and geospatial technologies using real-time scientific data. The university said the initiative is expected to promote interdisciplinary research and foster future collaborations with national research organisations.
