NTA cautions candidates against fake AI-generated NEET scorecards

New Delhi, Jul 20 (INB) The National Testing Agency (NTA) has warned against the submission of fabricated, digitally altered or AI-generated NEET (UG) 2026 OMR answer sheets and scorecards, an official public notice said on Monday.
The agency said such acts constitute cognisable offences under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, and could lead to criminal prosecution, cancellation of candidature and debarment from future examinations.
It has received several representations after the declaration of NEET (UG) 2026 results alleging that candidates’ OMR answer sheets had been interchanged or did not reflect the responses they had marked.
Many complainants submitted images claiming to be their “correct” OMR sheets or scorecards and sought re-evaluation. forensic and record-based examination of all such cases found that the documents submitted were fabricated and did not match the official records maintained by the NTA. It said the genuine OMR sheets contain verifiable identifiers such as roll number, barcode, booklet number, candidate details, signatures and thumb impressions, which correspond to secure records maintained by the agency and the National Informatics Centre.
According to the NTA, the forged documents involved AI-based regeneration of OMR sheets, digital overwriting of candidate identity fields, alteration of marks or response counts on scorecards, and insertion of fictitious candidate details while retaining genuine barcodes or QR codes.
The agency cautioned candidates, parents, coaching institutes and consultants that creating, possessing, circulating or submitting forged examination documents for re-evaluation, admission or public dissemination attracts penal provisions under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Information Technology Act, 2000.
NTA said it will initiate legal proceedings against candidates and any third parties involved in preparing or circulating fabricated documents. It added that no re-evaluation, revision of results or reservation of seats would be undertaken on the basis of forged documents.
The agency, however, clarified that candidates with genuine grievances regarding their OMR answer sheets may submit representations through the prescribed official channel, but advised them not to attach any document that was not issued by or downloaded from the NTA portal.
