AICTE asks its institutions to join three-day National Sports Day celebrations

New Delhi, Aug 27 (INB) The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) asked its higher education institutions to actively participate in a three-day nationwide celebration of National Sports Day from August 28 to 30,
The AICTE letter, issued on Monday, said the Ministry had forwarded an Office Memorandum dated August 18 regarding nationwide celebrations of National Sports Day 2026 from August 28 to 30. National Sports Day is observed annually on August 29 to commemorate the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. The 2026 celebrations are proposed under the theme “Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat”, built around the three pillars of “Tribute, Play and Move”, the AICTE said. The council has requested all AICTE-approved higher education institutions to encourage active participation of students, faculty members and staff in the celebrations. As per the communication, institutions may organise Digital Tributes, the 29 Challenge, “Pass the Ball” and “Sports Bandhan” on August 28. On August 29, institutions have been encouraged to organise “Ek Ghanta Khel Ke Maidan Mein”, promoting participation in sports and physical activities. The activities on August 30 include a special edition of “Sundays on Cycle” and a dedicated “Run and Ride” programme, according to the AICTE communication. The council said institutions may suitably adapt the suggested activities according to local conditions, available infrastructure, student demographics and institutional requirements, while ensuring safety, accessibility, inclusivity and maximum participation. AICTE has also directed the institutions to disseminate the information among students, faculty and staff and take necessary action for active participation in the National Sports Day celebrations. The communication was issued with the approval of the competent authority.
