DoSEL to organise nationwide school e-waste collection drive on October 28

New Delhi, October 19 (INB) Education Ministry’s Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL) will organise a nationwide e-waste awareness and collection drive in schools on October 28 as part of the government’s Special Campaign 6, an official statement said. The campaign, being implemented from October 2 to 31, focuses on improving administrative efficiency, maintaining clean school campuses and promoting responsible electronic waste management. As part of the initiative, schools across the country are undertaking cleanliness drives and e-waste collection activities under the Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE programme to sensitise students and teachers to the environmental impact of discarded electronic equipment, the ministry said in a statement on Sunday. The department is also working to reduce pendency in official work, digitise records, weed out obsolete files and improve record management practices. To mark International E-Waste Day on October 14, DoSEL installed e-waste bins and a mural at Kartavya Bhavan 2. The mural was created using 50 kg of e-waste collected by school students, the ministry said. DoSEL Secretary T K Anil Kumar reviewed preparations for the nationwide drive during a video conference with states, Union Territories and autonomous bodies on October 16. He emphasised the need to prepare plans to hand over collected e-waste to authorised vendors. The campaign aims to encourage students and school communities to adopt sustainable practices, including reducing, reusing and recycling electronic waste, it stated.
