New Delhi, Jul 1 (INB) The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and France’s Sorbonne University have expanded their strategic partnership with the launch of joint Master’s and PhD programmes in Biological Science from 2026, while broadening collaboration in research and innovation. The expanded partnership builds on the Franco-Indian Integrated Health Campus jointly established by the two institutions and aims to strengthen academic cooperation, research, student mobility and innovation across emerging fields. The institutions announced that the joint Master’s programme in Biological Science and a joint PhD programme will create new opportunities for students and researchers to benefit from the academic strengths and research ecosystems of both universities. A high-level IIT Delhi delegation led by Director Prof. Rangan Banerjee visited Sorbonne University in June to deepen institutional ties and explore collaboration in frontier areas, including Artificial Intelligence, Material Science, Informatics, Computer Science, Robotics and other interdisciplinary domains. Speaking on the collaboration, Prof. Banerjee said the partnership has already established joint Master’s and doctoral programmes with two-way student mobility in healthcare and is now expanding into emerging technologies and sustainable research areas. The collaboration aligns with the broader India-France strategic partnership, which identifies education, research, innovation, healthcare and digital technologies as key areas of bilateral cooperation. Both institutions also plan to enhance sharing of research infrastructure, increase faculty and student exchanges, promote co-supervised doctoral research, introduce additional joint degree programmes and organise international schools, workshops and collaborative research initiatives addressing global challenges. The Franco-Indian Integrated Health Campus continues to serve as the cornerstone of the partnership, bringing together expertise from engineering, medicine, life sciences, social sciences and digital technologies to advance interdisciplinary healthcare research and education. The IIT Delhi-Sorbonne University collaboration was recently highlighted by French President Emmanuel Macron during his address at Bharat Innovates 2026, recognising it as a flagship initiative in Indo-French scientific and educational cooperation.
