UGC asks higher education institutions to observe National Sports Day campaign from Aug 28-30

New Delhi, Aug 26 (INB) The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked higher education institutions (HEIs) and Institutions of National Importance (INIs) to participate in the nationwide National Sports Day 2026 campaign from August 28 to 30 under the theme “Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat”, according to a public notice. UGC Joint Secretary Dr Sunita Siwach said on Monday , the commission had received a communication from the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, forwarding a request from the Director General, Sports Authority of India, regarding the celebration. The UGC has requested all HEIs and INIs to adhere to the guidelines issued by the Sports Authority of India and make efforts to ensure that the campaign becomes a success across higher education institutions nationwide. The three-day campaign will coincide with National Sports Day, which is observed on August 29. The 2026 campaign is being organised from August 28 to 30, with the broader objective of encouraging participation in sports and promoting a sporting culture. The UGC communication was addressed to vice-chancellors, directors and principals of all HEIs and INIs. Copies were also marked to regulatory authorities and councils, the Ministry of Education and the UGC’s website and social media handles. The campaign’s theme, “Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat”, seeks to encourage greater participation in sports and physical activities across the country.
