New Delhi, June 24 (INB) The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked higher education institutions (HEIs) across the country to actively participate in the relaunched intensive and special ‘TB-Free India – 100 Day Campaign’ aimed at strengthening tuberculosis awareness and support activities. In a communication issued to universities and colleges, the UGC said it had received a request from the Department of Health and Family Welfare regarding the implementation of the campaign and enclosed details of the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan for reference. As part of the initiative, HEIs have been asked to ensure active participation of universities, institutions and educational bodies in tuberculosis awareness programmes. Institutions have also been advised to organise essay writing, poster-making, speech and cultural competitions focused on TB awareness. The commission has called for student sensitisation programmes, engagement of youth ambassadors and administration of the Ni-kshay Pledge to encourage public participation in the national campaign. HEIs have also been directed to disseminate TB awareness messages through their social media platforms and support the registration and engagement of Ni-kshay Mitras for awareness and community support activities. Further, institutions have been asked to designate a nodal officer and ensure continuous engagement with the campaign to facilitate its effective implementation. The UGC has requested all higher education institutions to take necessary action on the proposed activities and submit reports detailing the awareness programmes and initiatives undertaken by them as part of the campaign.
The TB-Free India – 100 Day Campaign is part of the government’s broader efforts to eliminate tuberculosis through public awareness, community participation and institutional support.
