IIT Bombay celebrates National Engineers’ Day, honours research and technology achievements

Mumbai, Sept 15 (INB) The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay celebrated National Engineers’ Day 2026 by paying tribute to Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya and recognising achievements in research, technology development and campus infrastructure, it said on Tuesday.
S.N. Subrahmanyan, Chairman and Managing Director of Larsen & Toubro Limited, was the chief guest at the programme, IIT Bombay said in a post on LinkedIn. Addressing the gathering, Subrahmanyan said the world offered tremendous opportunities in areas such as energy transition, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, robotics and localisation. He said young engineers had exciting opportunities ahead, with research, technology, application, scale and impact increasingly shaping the future. “Knowledge gives capability, character gives credibility, and execution creates impact,” Subrahmanyan said, encouraging young engineers to seize opportunities, build enterprises, use technology to solve real-world problems and contribute meaningfully to the nation. During the programme, IIT Bombay conferred the IIT Bombay International Award for Excellence in Research in Engineering and Technology, the Dr P.K. Patwardhan Technology Development Award 2025, and C1973 Faculty Awards for Research Excellence. The institute also presented the Prof. S.L. Mehndiratta Award 2026 and awards under the Best Zonal Work Award category. National Engineers’ Day is observed on September 15 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya.
