Ahmedabad, Sept 28 (INB) The Experiential Learning Centre for Sustainable Energy & Circularity (ELC-SEC), jointly established by IIT Roorkee and NAMTECH with CSR support from NTPC Ltd, organised an accelerator session on circular manufacturing at the World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) 2026 in Ahmedabad, it said.
The session, titled “Manufacturing Engineering & Technology for Circular Economy” (MET4CE), brought together more than 400 participants from academia, industry, research, design, manufacturing, energy and sustainability sectors to discuss the role of engineering, technology and design in advancing circular manufacturing, the Institute said in a official LinkedIn post on Sunday.
MET4CE was among 75 accelerator sessions selected globally for WCEF 2026, according to the organisers. The session featured keynotes by Dr Vijay Kumar Saraswat and Dr Leena Srivastava. The ELC-SEC also released its first whitepaper, “Framework for Circular Manufacturing”, outlining approaches to support the transition towards more sustainable and circular manufacturing practices. A workforce development programme was also launched in collaboration with the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT). The programme was co-developed with IIT Roorkee and is aimed at strengthening workforce capabilities in emerging technologies relevant to circular manufacturing, it added. Discussions during the session covered Industry 4.0, artificial intelligence, digital twins, advanced manufacturing, automation and the use of data to support circularity. The initiative reflects the efforts of IIT Roorkee and NAMTECH to promote research, experiential learning, industry engagement and workforce development for sustainable and circular manufacturing, the organisers said.
