IIT Madras to conduct GATE 2027 registrations from August new Robotics paper introduced

Chennai, Jul 22 (INB) The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras will organise GATE 2027, with registrations expected to begin in mid-August 2026. The exam will be held on six days in February 2027 and will introduce a new Robotics and Automation paper. IIT Madras, the organising institute for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027, said the national-level examination will be conducted jointly by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) on behalf of the National Coordination Board-GATE, Ministry of Education. The computer-based test (CBT) will be held on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2027, in both forenoon and afternoon sessions. The online application portal is expected to open in the mid-week of August 2026. GATE 2027 will comprise 30 test papers, with a revised syllabus introduced after five years. A new paper in Robotics and Automation (RA) has been added, while the Textile Engineering and Fibre Science (TF) paper has been converted into a sectional paper under Engineering Science (XE). Candidates will be allowed to appear in one or two papers from the approved combinations. The examination serves as a gateway for admission to Master’s, direct doctoral and doctoral programmes in institutions supported by the Ministry of Education. GATE scores are also accepted by several public sector undertakings (PSUs) and other organisations for recruitment. The score will remain valid for three years from the date of declaration of results. To strengthen examination security, IIT Madras said the registration process will be integrated with DigiLocker and facial authentication to enable seamless verification and entry into examination centres.
