Lucknow, Sep 11 (INB) The Punjab government has assured the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) of action to address shortcomings in government schools after its members highlighted deficiencies during a school audit, the youth-led pressure group has said.
In a post on X, Dipke referred to visits by CJP members Saurav and Ashu to government schools in Punjab and Karnataka, respectively, where they highlighted alleged shortcomings in basic facilities.
“Saurav visited schools in Punjab, pointed out the shortcomings, and the Education Minister met him and assured action. Ashu did the same in Karnataka. The Education Minister met him and assured action,” Dipke said. “But when we expose poor conditions in schools in BJP-ruled states, they send goons after our team. Why is the BJP so afraid of accountability? Why is the BJP against education?” he alleged. CJP co-convenor Saurav Das echoed the charge, questioning what he described as the reluctance of BJP leaders to engage with young people raising concerns about government schools. “Why are the BJP leaders so averse to any form of dialogue?” Das said, adding that opposition-ruled states had set an example by engaging with youngsters and assuring action. The Cockroach Janata Party is a youth-led civil activist movement and pressure group founded by Dipke, which has focused on institutional accountability, particularly issues concerning education infrastructure and unemployment. The group recently launched its “School Thik Karo” campaign to examine basic facilities in government schools and subsequently expanded the exercise to states including Punjab, Karnataka and Telangana. Its school audits have, however, also triggered confrontations. In one such incident in Rajasthan, members of a CJP team were allegedly assaulted, their vehicles damaged and women supporters roughed up during a visit to a village, according to the group’s account. Dipke’s latest remarks seek to draw a political contrast between the response received by CJP teams in non-BJP-ruled states and what he alleged was resistance to scrutiny in states governed by the saffron party. The BJP’s response to the allegations was not immediately available.
