Deakin University secures Australia-India grants for cyber, critical technology research
New Delhi, Sept 1 (INB) Australia based Deakin University has secured multiple competitive grants under the Australia-India Cyber and Critical Technology Partnership (AICCTP) for research projects focused on cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies and critical infrastructure, the varsity said. Researchers from its Deakin Cyber Research and Innovation Hub and Deakin Applied Artificial Intelligence Initiative have received funding under the bilateral partnership, the university said in a statement. The funded projects bring together researchers from Deakin and leading Indian and South Asian institutions to address cyber and critical technology challenges facing the Indo-Pacific region, it said. The AICCTP, established in 2020, supports collaboration between Australian and Indian research, industry, government and civil society organisations, with the latest awards aimed at advancing innovation, technological resilience and bilateral cooperation, according to the statement issued on Thursday. The projects include Post-Quantum Cryptography Migration in the Indo-Pacific, led by Deakin in partnership with IIT Madras, and Quantum-safe Digital Public Infrastructure, led by Deakin in collaboration with Symbiosis International University and VIT, it added. Another project, Securing Critical Energy Supply Chains Using AI and Blockchain, is being led by La Trobe University in collaboration with Deakin and IIT Kanpur. The fourth project, Addressing Barriers to Safe, Standards-Based AI Adoption, is led by Swinburne University of Technology in collaboration with Deakin, IIT Palakkad, River Venture Studio in Singapore and Kumaraguru College of Technology, the varsity said. Professor Robin Doss, Director of the Deakin Cyber Research and Innovation Hub, said Australia and India share an increasingly important partnership built on knowledge, innovation and talent. “These projects reflect the depth of that relationship and our shared commitment to developing secure, resilient and future-ready technologies,” Doss said. The latest grants add to Deakin’s broader Australia-India research initiatives. Earlier, its SME Research Centre secured an A$340,000 Australian Government Maitri Grant for an initiative aimed at helping Australian SMEs better understand India’s innovation landscape through workshops, policy insights and an India roadshow. Ravneet Pawha, Vice President (Global Engagement) and CEO (South Asia), Deakin University, said the university’s work across Australia and India seeks to co-create solutions that build capability, drive innovation and deliver benefits for communities and industry. Deakin said its South Asia operations began in New Delhi in 1994, and the university continues to engage with government, industry and academia in the region on education and research initiatives.
