IIT Indore Director Suhas S Joshi stresses need to build resilient minds, connected campuses

New Delhi, Aug 31 (INB) At a two-day workshop at IIT Indore, Director Dr Suhas S Joshi highlighted the need for collective efforts to build resilient minds, connected campuses and stronger institutional support systems for student wellbeing, according to an official statement on Monday.
He made remarks at the conclusion of the capacity-building workshop on positive mental health, resilience and wellbeing.
Titled “Samvardhan: From Academic Excellence to Sustainable Wellness”, the workshop was organised by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, in collaboration with IIT Indore.
Joshi said the key learnings from the workshop should be translated into sustained institutional practices to promote positive mental health, resilience and holistic student wellbeing across campuses, according to the statement. The workshop aimed to strengthen institutional capacities for creating healthier, more supportive and connected higher education ecosystems. It brought together institutional leaders, faculty members, student affairs professionals, mental health experts, wardens, students and counsellors from participating institutions, it added. According to the ministry, the programme included expert interactions, hands-on activities, brainstorming sessions, recapitulation and feedback to facilitate experiential and collaborative learning. Experts and panelists from psychiatry and mental health, nutrition and healthy lifestyles, Indian Knowledge Systems, learning disabilities and student support participated in the workshop. The first day featured sessions on the psychosocial landscape of higher education institutions, institutional wellbeing initiatives, social belonging and connected campuses, early identification and intervention, peer mentoring based on life skills, and prevention of lifestyle-related conditions. The second day focused on identifying warning signs, specific learning disabilities, prevention of substance use, hostel ecosystems, collaborative living spaces and mentoring networks. The workshop concluded with participating institutions developing institutional and university wellbeing indicators, along with final recommendations and action plans, the ministry said. Organised under the Teacher Connect Programme of the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme (MMTTP) for the central and west regions, the workshop brought together 94 participants from 21 higher education institutions across Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh, it added.
