Kharagpur (WB), Sep 8 (INB) The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has organised a five-day capacity-building programme for school teachers aimed at promoting modern teaching practices, digital pedagogy and the use of emerging technologies in classrooms, it said. The programme, titled โTransforming Teaching Practices in School Education: NEP 2020, Digital Pedagogy, and GenAIโ, was conducted by the institute’s Centre for Interdisciplinary and Convergent Technologies (CIDCT), IIT-Kgp said in a LinkedIn post on Monday. Designed for Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) Chemistry and Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) Work Experience teachers, the programme covered contemporary teaching approaches and experiential learning, including outcome-based education, assessment and laboratory-based learning. Participants were also introduced to emerging technologies and tools such as generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), computational thinking, Internet of Things (IoT), microcontrollers, 3D printing and Raspberry Pi, besides project-based learning, it said. A special session by IIT Kharagpur Director Prof Suman Chakraborty focused on best classroom practices and creating engaging and future-ready learning environments, according to the institute. The teachers also visited IIT Kharagpur’s Virtual Reality Lab and the Nehru Museum of Science and Technology, providing them exposure to immersive and hands-on approaches to learning. The institute said the initiative was aimed at extending the impact of technology and innovation beyond higher education and into school classrooms, while helping educators translate the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 into meaningful learning experiences.
