India-led Global Biofuels Alliance picks 15 researchers for fellowship

New Delhi, Jul 3 (INB) The India-headquartered Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA) has selected 15 early-career researchers from leading global universities for its inaugural Global Biofuel Champion Fellowship, awarding research grants of USD 15,000 each. The selected fellows, drawn from 32 countries through a three-stage international evaluation process, will work with the Alliance over the next two years to advance research, knowledge exchange and international collaboration in sustainable biofuels. The fellowship brings together researchers working in biofuels, sustainable energy systems, transport decarbonisation and the circular economy. The inaugural cohort includes scholars from institutions such as the University of Michigan, the University of Manchester, Monash University, Polytechnique Montréal, the University of Alberta, the University of Florida, TERI and IIT Delhi, among others. The Global Biofuel Champion Fellowship has been launched as a flagship capacity-building initiative to strengthen international cooperation by connecting academic research with policy and industry. The programme aims to support applied research, promote knowledge exchange and help translate scientific innovation into scalable bioenergy solutions. Speaking virtually at the announcement, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Secretary and GBA Interim Director General Dr Neeraj Mittal said India’s bioenergy journey offers an open-source blueprint for countries seeking sustainable energy transitions through supportive policy frameworks. GBA Director Josh Wycliffe said the Alliance has prepared a long-term roadmap to ensure the fellowship delivers sustained technical and international collaboration beyond its launch. The fellowship provides research grants, mentorship and international engagement opportunities to outstanding early-career researchers to strengthen global cooperation in biofuel research and support the clean energy transition, according to the Alliance.
