IIIT Hyderabad, Hexagon R&D India join hands to advance digital twin research

Hyderabad, Sept 23 (INB) The International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIIT-H) and Hexagon R&D India have partnered to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) focused on digital twin research, computer vision and spatial computing using artificial intelligence, the institute said on Wednesday.
The Hexagon Digital Twin CoE at IIIT Hyderabad will support applied research, education and industry collaboration, besides enabling the development of prototypes, proofs of concept and solutions for real-world industry challenges, according to an official statement. Hexagon is a global measurement technology company that provides precision measurement, positioning and autonomous solutions for industries including aerospace and defence, automotive, construction and manufacturing. Under the collaboration, students, faculty and researchers at IIIT Hyderabad will get access to Hexagon’s precision imaging laser scanner, Leica BLK360 G2, along with relevant software, to facilitate high-fidelity digital twin creation. The CoE will provide opportunities for students and researchers to work with industry-grade technologies and datasets while exploring applications in spatial computing and computer vision, the institute said. IIIT Hyderabad Director Prof Sandeep K Shukla said the collaboration would provide researchers and students access to advanced technologies and real-world spatial data, creating opportunities to take research from laboratories to practical applications. Navaneet Mishra, Senior Vice President and Head of Hexagon’s R&D India, said the collaboration would give students and researchers access to Hexagon’s technologies and real-world industry challenges. Nora Hollenstein, Vice President, AI Hub at Hexagon AB, said the initiative aims to create an environment where ideas can be tested and deep research can contribute to real-world solutions. Founded in 1998, IIIT Hyderabad is an autonomous research university focusing on information technology, including computer science, electronics and communications, and their applications through interdisciplinary research. Hexagon has around 16,000 employees across 50 countries and reported net sales of approximately EUR 3.7 billion, according to the company.
