New Delhi, Aug 20 (INB) The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the country to intensify their awareness, sensitization, and community outreach activities under the ‘TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’ to support the national goal of eliminating tuberculosis, according to an official statement. In the communication addressed to heads of institutions, UGC Secretary Prof Shyama Rath urged colleges and universities to ensure effective and sustained implementation of anti-TB initiatives. The commission reiterated its earlier directives issued on June 8 and July 31 and emphasised the proactive role of the higher education sector in eradication efforts, according to the statement issued on Wednesday. To consolidate and monitor the progress of these initiatives nationwide, the regulatory body has instructed all HEIs to submit detailed reports on completed, ongoing, and proposed activities through a designated online portal, it added. As part of its ongoing sensitisation drive, the UGC is organizing a special session under its Chetna Series titled “TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan: Creating Awareness for a TB-Free India” on August 25, 2026, at 10 AM. The session will feature an address by Dr Shobini Rajan, Deputy Director General (TB) at the Central TB Division, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, it stated. The commission has asked institutions to ensure maximum participation of students, faculty members, and non-teaching staff in the session, which will be live-streamed across the UGC’s official social media platforms.
