Delhi govt to invest Rs 500 cr under startup policy: Delhi CM
New Delhi, Jul 18 (INB) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced that the Delhi government will invest Rs 500 crore under its Startup Policy, while Atal Canteens offering meals at Rs 5 will also be opened on the Delhi University campus.
She was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College.
Addressing the curtain raiser event at the Delhi University Convention Hall, Gupta said the government aims to strengthen Delhi’s education ecosystem so that students need not leave the city for quality higher education. She also announced that the number of ‘U Special’ bus routes serving Delhi University students would be increased to 50 and said the government plans to develop quality hostels for students coming from outside Delhi. The chief minister urged colleges to actively engage with nearby communities and contribute to the education and development of children from underprivileged backgrounds. Speaking on the occasion, Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh said India needs hundreds of multinational companies originating from the country to achieve the vision of a developed nation, and universities must nurture entrepreneurs capable of building such enterprises. Congratulating Shaheed Bhagat Singh College on completing 60 years, Singh highlighted the institution’s improvement in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), where it moved from the 101st position to 39th rank. He also called on colleges to establish business incubators to promote innovation and entrepreneurship among students. College Principal Prof. Arun Kumar Atri said the Diamond Jubilee celebrations would not only commemorate the institution’s achievements over the past six decades but also serve as a milestone in shaping its future. The event began with a presentation showcasing the college’s 60-year journey and was attended by faculty members, students and dignitaries.
