New Delhi, Sep 3 (INB) VIT (Vellore institute of technology) Bhopal University concluded a two-day national conclave on intellectual property rights (IPR), bringing together experts, researchers, faculty and students to discuss protecting and commercialising innovations in the era of artificial intelligence, the varsity said.
The conclave, organised by the IPR Cell of VIT Bhopal with support from the Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology (MPCST), was themed “Intellectual Property Rights: Ideas to Impact in AI Era”, the university said in a statement.
VIT Bhopal Vice-Chancellor Prof Satish Kumar Modh said the university aims to create an ecosystem where students and faculty can generate innovative ideas while being empowered to safeguard and commercialise their intellectual contributions. Chief Guest Prof Mukesh Kumar of IIT Indore said protecting intellectual property is important for transforming research into high-impact global assets in the AI era. Registrar Dr Gyan Prakash Mishra commended the initiative for contributing to the university’s research and innovation culture, while conclave convener Dr Shiv Manjaree Gopaliya stressed the need to create greater awareness about IPR and encourage researchers to consider intellectual property protection at an early stage of innovation. The second day featured sessions by Prof Abhishek Rawat of IITRAM Ahmedabad on choosing between industrial designs and patents for innovative products. Trademark Attorney Hainsi Kanwal discussed the significance of Geographical Indications (GI) in protecting traditional knowledge and products while creating opportunities for wider commercialisation, according to the statement. The conclave covered key areas of intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, copyrights and industrial designs, with sessions aimed at providing researchers and students practical insights into protecting and leveraging their innovations, it added. The event was supported by Dr Akshara Makrariya, R&D Head, VIT Bhopal University, along with IPR Cell members Dr Preetam Suman, Dr Monica Sankat and Dr Ankur Beohar, it said. VIT Bhopal University, established in Madhya Pradesh in 2017, is part of the Vellore Institute of Technology group and offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes across engineering, management, sciences and allied disciplines.
