New Delhi, Sept 16 (INB) The Department of Higher Education reviewed 95.2 per cent of physical files and 87.46 per cent of e-files under Special Campaign 5.0, covering around 1,159 sites across the country, the Education Ministry said. The department reviewed 2,04,859 physical files and 62,564 e-files during the campaign, which helped free 14,44,839 square feet of office space and generate Rs 6.89 crore through scrap disposal, it said in an official statement issued on Tuesday. Over 3,312 files were digitised, while 90,629 physical and electronic files were weeded out or closed, according to the ministry. The Department of Higher Education is now preparing to participate in Special Campaign 6.0, which will be held from October 2 to 31, with a focus on reducing pendency, improving cleanliness in government offices and enhancing the workplace environment. The campaign will have a preparatory phase from September 15 to 30, followed by the implementation phase from October 2 to 31. During the preparatory phase, heads and faculty of centrally funded institutions, along with the UGC, AICTE and DoHE bureaus, will identify pending matters and set targets for cleanliness, record management and space utilisation, the ministry said. This year’s campaign will place special emphasis on the effective collection, segregation and disposal of e-waste, besides disposal of outdated materials and office beautification. During the implementation phase, offices will focus on clearing pending matters, including public grievances, parliamentary assurances, inter-ministerial communications and VVIP references. Progress will be reported daily, the ministry said. The campaign will also seek to promote sustainability and public participation through social media using the hashtag #SpecialCampaign6. As part of a separate Special Campaign for Disposal of Pending Matters conducted from November 2025 to August 2026, the department disposed of 24,126 public grievances and 4,177 public grievance appeals, according to the ministry.
